A $3,000 purse will attract some of the top BMX riders
on the East Coast for the Hampton Supertrack Fall Pro-Am
Open on Saturday at Gosnold's Hope Park.
Michael McGonigle of Philadelphia, who edged James Zajd of
Hampton for the $500 top prize last year, is expected to defend
his title in the pro-am. He'll be joined by such local riders as pros
Justin Wicke and Chris Creech plus Travis Johnson, Matt Boller
and Matt Cecil in the Expert class.
The pro-am is open for males 16 and over and girls 14 and over.
On-site registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30.
The racing starts at 2 p.m.
The pro-am will be run between two state qualifiers.
The state champion****ps will be held in Richmond next month.
Among the top youngsters competing are national champions
Billy Ehle in the 9-year-old Rookie class and Thomas Ashburn
in 15-year-old Novice category.
Glen Scoggins of Virginia Beach, the No. 2 Rookie
for 13-year-olds in the Northeast Region, is also entered.
