Cause of bulge in BMX wheel rim wall? Too much brake use?? Fixable???

by tunesandballoons@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Jul 17, 2006 at 05:27 PM

A bulge or dent appeared out of nowhere on my 36-spoke(?) 20" BMX wheel
and seems to be getting worse with every mile. This bike (Ego electric
scoother actually) is heavy, 150 lbs. w/out rider , and pulls a 50 lb
trailer, too.

I've been using the rear caliper brake mainly, rather than the disc
brakes, so there is scoring on the wheel rim, where the bulge has
appeared.

Is this normal wear, or did it come from hitting a pothole, perhaps?
I'm running 90-100 PSI (tire is rated for 110 PSI.)

This ebike has gone over 8,000 miles likely.

Thanks for all comments and suggestions.
