*** Funding Needed For A BMX Track ***
Aylesbury, UK -- 02/24/2008
A campaign to bring a BMX track to Aylesbury has been backed
by local schoolchildren - but now the hard work begins in securing
thousands of pounds worth of funding to make the dream a reality.
Ninety pupils from William Harding School filled in a questionnaire
regarding the possibility of a £120,000 track in Meadowcroft, and
around two thirds responded that they would be interested in using
the facilities, with more than half excited by the chance to get
formally
coached by the club.
Mark Watton, from Weedon, and Miles Kirby, from Wing, are now
planning to poll more schoolchildren about the plans for the club,
which has been named Aylesbury Aces.
As a result of an article in The Bucks Herald in December which first
revealed their plans, the pair have been joined by Stuart Cook, a
British
Cycling commissioner who organises road races, and who Mr Watton said
had added new ideas and skills to their campaign.
The men held a meeting with Aylesbury Vale District Council's
s****ts development manager, Chris Bolton, last week. "It is still
early days but the potential is there," Mr Bolton said.
"At the moment we are trying to gauge levels and one thing the
guys are doing is some consultation around Quarrendon, the town
itself and perhaps even around the Vale to get a handle on the
potential number of users. That will help in terms of attracting
funding."
Mr Watton said: "It's literally a matter of finance, if we can get the
grants that we are going to apply for then it is looking really, really
good. We asked the district council some really straight questions
and got some really straight answers."
