*** Prudhoe Park BMX Track Being ReBuilt ***

An overgrownbike track at a Prudhoe park will
be brought back to life over the next few weeks.
Work has started on transforming the old dirt track at Highfield
Park into a bright new BMX course for the town’s youngsters.
The area will be levelled out before a series of earth tracks
will be created to cater for riders of different abilities.
The project has been championed by bike-loving teenagers
who designed the course with the help of Prudhoe councillor
and retired youth worker George McCreedy.
Coun. McCreedy said: “Work has already started on preparing
the land, and if all goes to plan, we hope it will be ready by the
middle of March.
“There is a demand for something like this in the town.
A lot of the young people enjoy riding their bikes, and
something like this is needed in Prudhoe.
“It will be the ideal facility for them to make the most of their
BMX skills, and I have no doubt that it will be very popular.”
The project has been sup****ted by Prudhoe Town Council and
youth workers in the town, who have helped the youngsters to
raise money for the scheme.
Once completed, the facility will include earth tracks shaped
to provide ramps and jumps of different sizes to suit all abilities
from beginners to experts.
It will also include seating areas and litter bins to
make sure the area remains attractive and tidy.
The BMX course will not disrupt the existing facilities at Highfield
Park,
which include a skateboard ramp, play equipment for young children
and a small football field.
Coun. McCreedy says the BMX track will complement the current
facilities at the park, and believes the youngsters will respect other
people who use the park and residents who live nearby.
