is the World No.1 in her BMX division.

New Zealand now boasts the world's two leading BMX riders less
than six months out from the sport's Olympic debut in Beijing.

Kawerau's Sarah Walker and Cambridge's Marc Willers were officially
ranked No. 1 in the world when the new International Cycling Union
(UCI) rankings were released yesterday.

They sealed their spots by winning their races in the latest round
of the Oceania regional ranking series in North Harbour.

Both are now preparing for the next round of the world
supercross competition in Adelaide next month.

Their performances are a significant boost to the sport,
according to BikeNZ high-performance director Mark Elliott.

"It's wonderful news and good reward for their consistently
outstanding performances over the last few months," Elliott said.

"BikeNZ are putting in place a strong support team around Marc
and Sarah, and we are looking at key partnerships to develop
world-class facilities for them to train both in the lead-up to
Beijing and going forward."

the world's best male BMX rider.

"Their main European and American competitors have not yet had their
regional ranking events, but we are all thrilled for Marc and Sarah, and
I am sure the news will give them a further boost as they get down to
the hard work ahead through to Beijing."

Americans Kyle Bennett and Donny Robinson
are second and third respectively behind Willers.

Walker is ranked ahead of Canada's Samantha Cools and Argentina's
Gabriella Maria Diaz, with world champion Shaneze Reade, of Britain,
in 18th after branching out into the British track cycling programme in
recent times.
