Hereford, UK -- 03/09/2008
A former BMX national racing champion has made
a triumphant comeback - 21 years after winning a
major title.

Tony Baldwin was a 13-year-old schoolboy from Credenhill
when he carried off the National BMX Association Apocalypse
crown in 1987.

He won the national series in the 13 and under cruiser
section just 10 months after taking up the tough s****t.

Tony won the title with one meeting still
to go under the guidance of Brian Dukes.

However, Tony missed out on competing at the World BMX
Champion****ps in Chile because he could not raise enough
sponsor****p for his trip.

Now married to Nicola and living in Almeley, Tony, 34, has
returned to the saddle and won his comeback event in Hayes.

He is being joined by his six-year-old son, Taylan Baldwin.

Tony, who is a builder, said: "It has been very exciting,
but also hard work, riding again."

"My fitness levels are not the same, therefore,
I need to work on that and concentrate on my diet."

Taylan is a pupil at Almeley Primary School
and will compete in the 6 and under class.

The youngster has been riding for around four
months and is looking forward to the races.

Nicola said: "Taylan is very excited. He just wants to be like
his dad. We have managed to attract sponsor****p for them
to race - which is fantastic."

Father-and-son have been training weekly in Tredegar, South
Wales, at the national standard Parc Bryn Bach cycle track.

They are preparing for the 2008 British Cycling BMX National Series,
which is raced over eight weekends and made up of 12 rounds.

The opening two rounds of the series are being
held at Burnham-on-Sea on March 22 and 23.

The final round takes place at Preston on October 11 and 12.

Tony, who hopes to become a professional BMX coach,
is also delighted that the s****t has gained Olympic status.
