We bought one a few years back to go on long rides, as my wife couldn't
keep
up with me. As the other post states, rent one and try it out with your
partner to ensure you both like it before spending big bucks. The person
in
the back (stoker) has to have complete trust in the person in the front
which is a problem in some cases. Being the person in the front, I found
it
more difficult to 'drive' than a normal bike, as balance, stopping,
starting, ****fting all has to be coordinated. Bottom line is, we have had
some good rides (Ottawa-Mtl) with it and plan to use it more in the
future,
we brought our average speed up about 7 km hr. Unfortunately, we bought a
cheaper model ($1000) and have had some trouble with it, the rear axle
spacing is an old size and it looks hard to find upgraded hubs etc.. I
would
suggest you spend a minimum of $1500-2000 on one to be satisfied. I saw a
KHS for around this price, it looked solid. Ours is a mountain bike model,
and it is hard to find good tires that you can pump up to at least 80 psi
in
mountain bike sizes (26") for under $40 a tire. Cheap tires simply don't
last with the stress they are under. Hope this helps.
