Tour de LeMond
Three-Person Team Alleycat
July 22nd, 2006
presented by DemonCats racing
benefiting the Bicycle Messenger Emergency Fund www.bicyclemessenger.com
L'IDEE: The idea is to mark the 20th anniversary of Greg Lemond winning
the
Tour de France. 2006 also marks the return of excitement to the most
beautiful stage race in the world. It is not without reason it is called
La
Grande Boucle. After seven years of robotic dominance by Armstrong and
Co.,
the 2006 TdF will be an open race where the courageous will florish and
the
pretenders will be vanquished.
In honor of all of the above, The DemonCats will be hosting 20 of the
toughest crews on the East Coast of the United States in the Tour de
LeMond.
A three-person team alleycat, run as a normal point-to-point alleycat by
individual riders, but then re-grouping and culminating in a 12.5
team-time-trial through beautiful Rock Creek Park along Beach Drive into
Montgomery County, Maryland. Whew!
As always, all proceeds from this race will go to benefit the Bicycle
Messenger Emergency Fund. www.bicyclemessenger.com
LA COURSE: The race will consist of 3 types of courses, thus letting each
team determine which of their riders should ride each course. The courses
are as follows:
A) La Course Grimpeur- The course for the climbers. There will be seven
point-to-point "stages". Hilly stages. Concentrated in NW D.C.
B) La Course Rouleur- The course for the all-rounders. There will be seven
point-to-point "stages". Rolling stages. Concentrated in NE D.C.
C) La Course Sprint- The course for the sprinters. There will be seven
point-to-point "stages". Flat stages. Concentrated in SE and SW D.C.
Each racer will be given their first stage "manifest map" in a manila
envelope, marked A, B or C, depending on your course.
You will write your name, racer number and team name on this envelope.
This
envelope will be turned in at the last checkpoint.
A stage will be set along a suggested route which will be mapped along the
shortest distancessible, irregardless of traffic directions. It is not
mandatory to follow this route.
There will be three intermediate points, set to be no more than a block
off
the planned course, where you will fill in an answer in one of three
blanks.
Upon arriving at the checkpoint, you will be stamped by a race official.
Race officials are instructed not to stamp manifests missing any
intermediate checkpoint answers. Upon having your manifest stamped, the
race
official will hand you the manifest-map for the next stage.
The last stage will end at the same place for all riders:
Site #19 in Rock Creek Park.
Once all three riders for a team arrive, they will be given the
manifest-map
for the Team Time Trial.
D) Contre la Montre- Team Time Trial. A 12.5 mile race against the clock.
Point to Point. Clock stops when third rider of the team p***** the finish
line. Rolling stage along Beach Drive NW into Montgomery County, MD. There
will be 6 intermediate checkpoints (3 answered plus 3 manned checkpoints)
where riders must fill in the blank or get a stamp on their manifest-map.
Manifest-maps with uncompleted answers or missing stamps will not be
accepted.
The finish line will located at The DemonCats World Headquarters at 3921
Halsey Street, Kensington, MD.
Prizes will be awarded as follows:
