I recall reading many articles in Bicycling Magazine many years ago by
various doctors on the anatomy and physiology of cycling. They were all in

agreement that the optimum blood circulation is based on the upright
posture. It is the working position of the human being. A prone position
is
the resting position of the human being. It is not so much the heart
pumping
action that matters apparently as it is the venous valves which return
blood
to the heart. Those venous valves work best in the upright position. It is

all about our evolution as primates.

But I do not need any studies to confirm what I already know. Re***bents
are
terrible at climbing hills. I have seen many cyclists that do climb hills
well on a re***bent but they are working so much harder than are upright
cyclists. The fact is that many re***bent cyclists become iron men because

they cycle so much. But they would be even better on an upright bicycle if

they worked as hard at it.

I have known several re***bent cyclists who gave up on the re***bent
because
they were too slow at climbing hills. They want to be able to keep up with

their upright cyclist buddies and so they return to their first love. Does

any of this matter to me? Not at all. I only want to be COMFORTABLE on a
bicycle. That is the one and only claim that re***bents have over
uprights.
