About a month ago I finally got to the point on my Schlupmf 29er with
125s that I was comfortable enough at that crank length, and moving
fast enough on downhills and good flats that I thought it would be nice
to have shorter cranks. But I decided not to switch this close to the
race, mostly because I've been pu****ng the limits of what I can ride up
in the high gear, and I don't want to take a step back. I can now push
up grades up to about 4% faster in geared mode on the 29er than I can
on an ungeared 36er. I can climb grades a good bit steeper than that
in funky chicken mode, but that's not as fast as me on a 36er on the
same hill.
